KYLIE!

By RORI and POP-CULTURE! No Comments

I can remember exactly where i was when Confide In Me came out 30 years ago. Well maybe not the finer details, but I was on some bloody beachside resort, or island in the North of Queensland as the only male in a otherwise female modelling troop called, “Fashion with Flair”! Some quite charismatic, very eccentric, definitely determined, woman named Margo Mott, who had found success as a model yesterday to claim to be somebody today (or at least somebody 30 years ago in the local newspapers!) and have been given the funds and opportunity to create this yearly fashion/dance with lots of theatrics, intentional or not, modelling show that would literally tour the entire north coast of Queensland. Compromised of about 8 or so females, one male, the lady herself, and here my memory gets a little hazy? I feel like there was a female assistant? And I am assuming a vehicle driver? I honestly can’t remember how the fuck we got from one shopping mall to the next town pub out whoop whoop dragging all our costumes and set pieces along with us!

I was in my solo room, being the only male one of the perks was that I got a room to myself, while the girls slummed it out Indian style. In fact there was an actual Indian section in the show where I was dressed in my traditional heritage and married of to a very white Aussie girl. Who, in fact, I am still best friends with and who’s name is, Kylie! I had just come out of the shower and they were playing Confide In Me, on the radio, they had hyped the track up saying stuff like, “Kylie’s back!” “With her first official solo single since parting ways with Stock Aitken Waterman!” I was already anxious cause one of the girls had come in to tell me there was a gay boy in the village and that I had to come out and meet him. I was not officially out at this point and wouldn’t be for many, many more years to come. I definitely had not done anything with a boy and the prospect that tonight may be the night I finally would made me shit my pants. I remember thinking as Kylie’s sleek beats and temptress voice filled my soul with promises to have a safe place to unload my darkest secrets, that the song was a FKIN great one! It has remained one of my all time FAV Kylie songs to this day!

Needless to say, i did not get any action that night. The tour ended earlier than scheduled due to budget restraints as did my illustrious career as a high fashion model. But Kylie just went from strength to iconic strength. SO here’s a little tribute I did for Confide’s 30th Bday, paying tribute to that colossal classic and several others that have come since!
